2,2-Diethylbutanal

Description:
2,2-Diethylbutanal is an organic compound classified as an aldehyde, characterized by the presence of a carbonyl group (C=O) at the end of its carbon chain. Its molecular structure consists of a butane backbone with two ethyl groups attached to the second carbon, which contributes to its branched configuration. This compound is typically a colorless liquid with a distinctive odor, and it is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water due to its hydrophobic nature. 2,2-Diethylbutanal is used in various chemical syntheses and may serve as an intermediate in the production of other organic compounds. Its reactivity is influenced by the aldehyde functional group, making it susceptible to oxidation and nucleophilic addition reactions. Additionally, it may exhibit characteristics typical of aldehydes, such as participating in condensation reactions. Safety precautions should be taken when handling this compound, as it may pose health risks if inhaled or ingested.

    CAS:

2,2-Diethylbutanal is a chemical that is used as an antineoplastic drug. It has been shown to have affinity for the mineral sulfide and oxidizers. 2,2-Diethylbutanal has also been shown to be a long-term maternal toxicant in animals, with effects on the fetus and newborns. It has also been shown to cause problems for infants by reducing their serum levels of thyroxine and triiodothyronine (thyroid hormones). This chemical causes genetic mutations in isolates of organisms such as E coli and S cerevisiae. 2,2-Diethylbutanal may have adverse effects on the conformation of proteins or interfere with protein synthesis.
