CAS 26978-65-4
:Bromoethanesulfonic acid
Description:
Bromoethanesulfonic acid, with the CAS number 26978-65-4, is an organosulfonic acid characterized by the presence of both a bromine atom and a sulfonic acid group attached to an ethane backbone. This compound typically appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid or solid, depending on its form and purity. It is known for its strong acidity due to the sulfonic acid group, which makes it a potent proton donor in chemical reactions. Bromoethanesulfonic acid is soluble in water and polar organic solvents, facilitating its use in various chemical syntheses and applications, including as a reagent in organic chemistry for the introduction of sulfonate groups. Additionally, it can serve as an intermediate in the production of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Safety precautions are essential when handling this compound, as it may be corrosive and harmful upon contact with skin or if inhaled. Proper storage and disposal methods should be followed to mitigate any environmental impact.

CAS:
2-Bromoethanesulfonic acid is a chemical inhibitor that inhibits the growth of methanogens by inhibiting methane production. It has been shown to be effective against resistant mutants that have evolved in wastewater treatment systems. 2-Bromoethanesulfonic acid has been used as a model system for studying methanogenesis and the development of methanogenic bacteria in vitro. In these studies, 2-bromoethanesulfonic acid inhibited methane production, but did not inhibit bacterial growth or the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). This drug was also found to be an effective wastewater treatment agent when used at concentrations of 10 mg/L, with a reduction in methane production of up to 50%.
Formula:C2H5BrO3SPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:189.03 g/mol
