:1-tert-butylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid
Description:
1-tert-Butylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid is an organic compound characterized by its cyclohexane ring substituted with a tert-butyl group and a carboxylic acid functional group. This compound typically appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid or solid, depending on temperature and purity. It has a relatively high boiling point due to the presence of the carboxylic acid group, which can engage in hydrogen bonding. The tert-butyl group contributes to the steric bulk, influencing the compound's reactivity and solubility in various solvents. It is generally soluble in organic solvents but may have limited solubility in water. The presence of the carboxylic acid functional group imparts acidic properties, allowing it to participate in acid-base reactions. This compound may be utilized in organic synthesis, particularly in the development of pharmaceuticals or as an intermediate in chemical reactions. Safety data should be consulted for handling and storage, as with all chemical substances, to ensure proper precautions are taken.

1-tert-Butylcyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid
CAS:
1-tert-Butylcyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid is the product of the rearrangement and carbocationization of 1-tert-butylcyclohexane. It can be used to synthesize propanoic acid. The reaction mixture is heated for a few hours, and when cooled, gaseous cyclopropane is evolved. The cyclopropane is then trapped with sodium borohydride and hydrolyzed to form 1-tert-butylcyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid. This compound can also be obtained by the carboxylation of propene with carbon dioxide in the presence of a catalyst such as platinum oxide or Raney nickel. This produces an intermediate that undergoes rearrangement and protonation reactions to produce 1-tert butylcyclohexane carboxylic acid.
Formula:C11H20O2Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:184.27 g/mol
