:Monomethyl fumarate
Description:
Monomethyl fumarate (MMF) is an organic compound characterized by its structure as a methyl ester of fumaric acid. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a slightly sweet odor and is soluble in polar solvents such as water and alcohols. MMF is known for its role in the treatment of multiple sclerosis, where it acts as an immunomodulatory agent. The compound exhibits a double bond in its structure, contributing to its reactivity and potential for undergoing various chemical transformations. It has a relatively low molecular weight and is classified as a dicarboxylic acid derivative. In terms of safety, MMF should be handled with care, as it may cause skin and eye irritation upon contact. Its stability is influenced by environmental factors, and it is typically stored in a cool, dry place to maintain its integrity. Overall, monomethyl fumarate is significant in both pharmaceutical applications and chemical research due to its unique properties and biological activity.

CAS:
Monomethyl fumarate is a metabolite of dimethyl fumarate (DMF) and has been shown to be an inhibitor of the mitochondrial membrane potential. DMF is currently in clinical trials for the treatment of bowel disease, but its use has been limited by its poor oral bioavailability. Monomethyl fumarate has been shown to be more potent than DMF in inhibiting mitochondrial membrane potential and, therefore, may be a better therapeutic candidate for the treatment of bowel disease. Monomethyl fumarate also inhibits cell lysis through inhibition of tiglic acid production and increased resistance to autoimmune diseases.
Formula:C5H6O4Purity:Min. 98 Area-%Color and Shape:White Off-White PowderMolecular weight:130.1 g/mol
