The interaction of 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-2-thiourea with the p2 group of an acidic reaction solution produces hydrogen bonding interactions that are highly reactive. This molecule is a potent inducer of enzymes and has been shown to have toxicological effects in animal studies. It has also been shown to be an effective inhibitor of bacterial growth by binding to x-ray crystal structures with water vapor.
