Isophorone diamine

Description:
Isophorone diamine, with the CAS number 2855-13-2, is an aliphatic amine characterized by its unique structure, which includes two amine functional groups attached to an isophorone backbone. This compound is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a mild amine odor. It is known for its high boiling point and moderate viscosity, making it suitable for various applications. Isophorone diamine exhibits good solubility in water and organic solvents, which enhances its utility in formulations. It is primarily used as a hardener in epoxy resins, providing excellent adhesion, chemical resistance, and mechanical properties to cured materials. Additionally, it serves as a building block in the synthesis of polyurethanes and other polymers. However, it is important to handle isophorone diamine with care, as it can be irritating to the skin and eyes, and appropriate safety measures should be taken during its use. Overall, its versatile properties make it a valuable compound in industrial applications.

  • Isophorone diamine(cis/trans mixture)

    CAS:

Isophorone diamine is an organic compound with the formula (CH)C(NH)NH. It can be obtained by reacting ethylene diamine with methanol as solvent, or by hydrogenation of aniline. The cis/trans isomerism arises from the configuration of the methyl groups attached to the amine nitrogen atoms. Isophorone diamine is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. This compound has been used in analytical chemistry as a reagent for determining the presence of hydroxyl group in chemical reactions. Isophorone diamine reacts with acids to form salts, such as ammonium bisulfate and ammonium sulfate. Kinetic studies have shown that this reaction proceeds through a stepwise mechanism involving two consecutive nucleophilic additions followed by elimination of water, leading to a highly reactive intermediate.
