:7-(Acetyloxy)heptanal
Description:
7-(Acetyloxy)heptanal is an organic compound characterized by its structure, which includes a heptanal backbone with an acetyloxy functional group at the seventh carbon position. This compound belongs to the class of aldehydes and esters, featuring both an aldehyde functional group (-CHO) and an ester functional group (-O-C(=O)-CH3). The presence of the acetyloxy group imparts specific reactivity and properties, such as the potential for esterification and other nucleophilic reactions. It is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a distinctive odor, common to many aldehydes. The compound is soluble in organic solvents, and its reactivity can be influenced by the aldehyde group, making it useful in various synthetic applications, including the synthesis of more complex organic molecules. Safety data indicates that, like many organic compounds, it should be handled with care, as it may pose health risks if inhaled or ingested. Proper storage and handling protocols are essential to ensure safety in laboratory or industrial settings.
