1-Ethyl 2-ethylpropanedioate

Description:
1-Ethyl 2-ethylpropanedioate, with the CAS number 2985-34-4, is an organic compound belonging to the class of diesters. It features two ethyl groups attached to a central propanedioate structure, which consists of a three-carbon chain with two carboxylate groups. This compound is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a fruity odor, characteristic of many esters. It is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water due to its hydrophobic ethyl groups. The compound is often used in organic synthesis and as an intermediate in the production of various chemicals. Its reactivity is influenced by the presence of the ester functional groups, making it susceptible to hydrolysis and transesterification reactions. Safety data indicates that it should be handled with care, as it may cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Overall, 1-Ethyl 2-ethylpropanedioate is a versatile compound with applications in both industrial and laboratory settings.

  • 2-(Ethoxycarbonyl)butanoic acid

    CAS:

2-(Ethoxycarbonyl)butanoic acid is a solvate of ethoxycarbonyl butanoic acid. It is a weak antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This active form is metabolized through a number of metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. 2-(Ethoxycarbonyl)butanoic acid has been shown to be effective in the treatment of tuberculosis and other mycobacterial infections. It is also used as an antifungal agent against Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans. 2-(Ethoxycarbonyl)butanoic acid binds to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and prevents transcription and replication, which leads to cell death in susceptible bacteria.
