2-Ethynyl-6-methylpyridine (EMPy) is a cytostatic agent that inhibits the synthesis of DNA, RNA and proteins. EMPy is used as an antiviral agent to inhibit the replication of hepatitis B virus, herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 and varicella zoster virus.
