Amiodarone N-oxide

Description:
Amiodarone N-oxide is a chemical compound derived from amiodarone, a well-known antiarrhythmic medication used to treat various heart conditions. This compound is characterized by its structural modifications, which include the presence of an N-oxide functional group. It typically appears as a white to off-white solid and is soluble in organic solvents. The N-oxide modification can influence its pharmacological properties, potentially affecting its efficacy and safety profile compared to its parent compound. Amiodarone N-oxide is known to exhibit antiarrhythmic activity, although its specific mechanisms of action may differ from those of amiodarone. Additionally, it is important to consider its stability, potential for metabolic conversion, and interactions with other drugs. As with many pharmaceutical compounds, understanding its characteristics is crucial for evaluating its therapeutic potential and any associated risks. Safety data, including toxicity and environmental impact, should also be reviewed when handling or studying this substance.

  • Amiodarone N-oxide HCl

    CAS:
Amiodarone N-oxide HCl is a class III antiarrhythmic drug that acts by slowing the heart rate and prolonging the time between heartbeats. It has been shown to be effective in treating atrial fibrillation, ventricular fibrillation, and atrial flutter. Amiodarone N-oxide HCl has significant cytotoxicity, which can lead to cardiomyopathy and myocardial infarcts. Due to its long half life, amiodarone can accumulate in the body and cause side effects such as pulmonary toxicity, gastrointestinal bleeding, thyroid dysfunction, or liver damage. It is not recommended for use in patients with structural heart disease or those taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) because of an increased risk of adverse events.
