It is a white powder with a melting point of about 138°C. 3-[Methyl(phenyl)sulfamoyl]benzoic acid has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and some Gram-negative bacteria. 3-[Methyl(phenyl)sulfamoyl]benzoic acid also possesses antiviral activity and may inhibit the synthesis of DNA and RNA, as well as protein synthesis. The safety of 3-[Methyl(phenyl)sulfamoyl]benzoic acid has not been evaluated in humans, but it has been shown to be non-toxic in animal studies.
