It is derived from 2,2'-oxydiethanol and can be used as a polymerization catalyst for polyurethane resins. 1-(2-Methylphenyl)-2-sulfanyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-5 -one has been shown to have antibacterial properties against gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
