CAS 3274-29-1
:2-ethylheptanoic acid
Description:
2-Ethylheptanoic acid, with the CAS number 3274-29-1, is a branched-chain fatty acid characterized by its long carbon chain and the presence of a carboxylic acid functional group. It has a molecular formula of C9H18O2, indicating it consists of nine carbon atoms, eighteen hydrogen atoms, and two oxygen atoms. This compound is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a characteristic fatty odor. It is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water due to its hydrophobic carbon chain. 2-Ethylheptanoic acid is known for its applications in various industrial processes, including as a lubricant additive, in the production of surfactants, and as a precursor for the synthesis of other chemical compounds. Additionally, it exhibits properties that make it useful in the formulation of certain pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Its branched structure contributes to its unique physical and chemical properties, influencing its behavior in different chemical environments.

2-Ethylheptanoic acid
CAS:
2-Ethylheptanoic acid is a vasodilator that is used to treat hypertension. It is an enantiomer of the more common 2-ethylhexanoic acid and has been shown to have pressor effects in vitro by inhibiting the enzyme angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). 2-Ethylheptanoic acid may be useful in the treatment of congestive heart failure because it prevents the accumulation of bradykinin, which can lead to renal dysfunction. The elimination rate of 2-ethylheptanoic acid may be reduced by hepatic impairment, so this drug should not be used if there is evidence of liver disease.
2-Ethylheptanoic acid has been found to increase glomerular filtration rate and capillary permeability in humans with chronic kidney disease.
