When 3-acetylthio-2-methylpropanoic acid is reacted with an enzyme, it inhibits the enzyme’s ability to catalyze a reaction. 3-Acetylthio-2-methylpropanoic acid is an enantiomer of 2,3,4,5,6-pentaacetylthiopropionic acid. 3-Acetylthio-2-methylpropanoic acid has been shown to inhibit the activity of the enzyme choline kinase from rat liver. The inhibition of this enzyme prevents the formation of phosphatidylcholine (PC) in fat cells.
