silver perfluorooctanoate

Description:
Silver perfluorooctanoate, with the CAS number 335-93-3, is a chemical compound that consists of silver ions coordinated with perfluorooctanoate anions. This substance is characterized by its unique properties derived from both the silver and the perfluorinated alkyl chain. Silver, known for its antimicrobial properties, contributes to the compound's potential applications in various fields, including biomedicine and materials science. The perfluorooctanoate moiety imparts hydrophobic characteristics and enhances the compound's stability and resistance to degradation. Silver perfluorooctanoate is typically used in specialized applications, such as in the formulation of coatings, where its properties can provide benefits like reduced surface tension and improved durability. Additionally, the compound may exhibit unique interactions with biological systems, making it of interest in research related to drug delivery and environmental science. However, handling and usage require caution due to the potential toxicity associated with silver compounds and the environmental persistence of perfluorinated substances.

Silver Perfluorooctanoate is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria, fungi, and viruses. It is used in vitro as a reaction solution for enzyme activities. Silver Perfluorooctanoate inhibits the growth of microorganisms by binding to their cell membranes and damaging their cytoplasmic membrane. The toxicological studies of Silver Perfluorooctanoate show that it can cause liver lesions in humans and animals when administered at high doses or over long periods of time. This chemical also causes maternal blood changes such as decreased hemoglobin levels, increased platelet counts, increased white blood cell counts, and increased coagulation times. Silver Perfluorooctanoate has been shown to be safe for humans at low doses, but there are no data on its effects on pregnant women or children.
