:1,6-Diphenyl-1,6-hexanedione
Description:
1,6-Diphenyl-1,6-hexanedione, with the CAS number 3375-38-0, is an organic compound characterized by its diketone structure, featuring two phenyl groups attached to a hexanedione backbone. This compound typically exhibits a solid state at room temperature and is known for its potential applications in organic synthesis and as a reagent in various chemical reactions. The presence of two carbonyl (C=O) groups contributes to its reactivity, allowing it to participate in condensation reactions and serve as a building block for more complex molecules. Additionally, 1,6-diphenyl-1,6-hexanedione may display interesting optical properties due to its aromatic rings, which can influence its behavior in photochemical processes. Its solubility can vary depending on the solvent, often being more soluble in organic solvents than in water. Safety data should be consulted for handling and storage, as with any chemical substance, to ensure proper precautions are taken.

CAS:
1,4-Dibenzoylbutane is a pentane that is detectable by gas chromatography. It is used as a feedstock for the preparation of benzoic acid, which can be done in one step by oxidation of 1,4-dibenzoylbutane with hydrogen peroxide. The liquid chromatography (LC) separation of 1,4-dibenzoylbutane is achieved on a column containing silica gel or alumina as stationary phase and an organic solvent such as hexane or heptane as mobile phase. The yield for this process can be increased to about 97% by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Polymorphs of 1,4-dibenzoylbutane are obtained from the crystallization process at different temperatures.
Formula:C18H18O2Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:White/Off-White SolidMolecular weight:266.33 g/mol
