:2-Cyclopenten-1-one, 2-iodo-
Description:
2-Cyclopenten-1-one, 2-iodo- is an organic compound characterized by its cyclopentene ring structure with a ketone functional group and an iodine substituent at the second carbon position. This compound typically exhibits a yellow to brownish color and is known for its reactivity due to the presence of both the double bond and the carbonyl group, making it a potential candidate for various chemical reactions, including nucleophilic additions and cycloadditions. The iodine atom introduces unique properties, such as increased molecular weight and potential for further halogenation or substitution reactions. In terms of solubility, it is generally soluble in organic solvents, which is common for many halogenated compounds. The presence of the double bond and the carbonyl group also contributes to its potential applications in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry, where it may serve as an intermediate in the synthesis of more complex molecules. Safety data should be consulted for handling, as halogenated compounds can pose health risks.

2-Iodocyclopent-2-enone
CAS:
2-Iodocyclopent-2-enone is a cyclopentenone that has potent antitumor activity. It inhibits tumor growth by interfering with the synthesis of proteins and DNA in cells. 2-Iodocyclopent-2-enone binds to the enzyme s-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase, which catalyzes the conversion of s-adenosylhomocysteine to homocysteine and adenosine. This binding prevents the formation of adenosylcobalamin, which is an essential cofactor for many enzymes involved in protein synthesis. The cobalamin analogue cobalamin is also used as a pharmaceutical agent for treating vitamin B12 deficiency and pernicious anemia. The compound also has been shown to inhibit TNFα production in mouse tumor cells. 2-Iodocyclopent-2-enone is synthesized from allyl chloride and cyclopentene oxide with a hyd
Formula:C5H5IOPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:208 g/mol
