Boc-Cys(Bzl)-OSu

Description:
Boc-Cys(Bzl)-OSu, also known as N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-L-cysteine benzyl ester N-hydroxysuccinimide ester, is a chemical compound commonly used in peptide synthesis and bioconjugation. It features a tert-butoxycarbonyl (Boc) protecting group on the amino group of cysteine, which helps to stabilize the amino acid during reactions. The benzyl ester moiety provides additional protection for the thiol group, enhancing the compound's stability and reactivity. The N-hydroxysuccinimide (OSu) group is particularly useful for forming stable amide bonds with primary amines, making it valuable in the development of peptide-based therapeutics and in the modification of biomolecules. This compound is typically handled under standard laboratory conditions, and its reactivity can be influenced by factors such as pH and the presence of nucleophiles. Overall, Boc-Cys(Bzl)-OSu is a versatile intermediate in organic synthesis and biochemistry, facilitating the selective modification of cysteine residues in peptides and proteins.

  • Boc-Cys(Bzl)-OSu

    CAS:
Boc-Cys(Bzl)-OSu is a prodrug that is metabolized by esterases to form the active compound, boc-Cys(Bzl)-OH. This molecule inhibits matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity and can be used for the treatment of viral infections, such as hepatitis C and HIV. Boc-Cys(Bzl)-OSu has been shown to inhibit MMPs in a number of different ways including steric interactions with the active site of MMPs and by binding to the receptor protein for these enzymes. It also has antiviral activity against HIV and other viruses.
