Adenosine-5′-carboxylic acid

Description:
Adenosine-5′-carboxylic acid, also known by its CAS number 3415-09-6, is a derivative of adenosine, which is a nucleoside composed of adenine and ribose. This compound features a carboxylic acid functional group attached to the 5' position of the ribose sugar. It is typically characterized by its polar nature due to the presence of the carboxylic acid group, which can participate in hydrogen bonding and influence its solubility in water. The molecular structure allows it to play a role in biochemical processes, particularly in cellular metabolism and signaling pathways. Adenosine derivatives are often involved in energy transfer, as seen in ATP, and can also act as signaling molecules in various physiological processes. The compound may exhibit specific reactivity patterns typical of carboxylic acids, such as undergoing esterification or decarboxylation under certain conditions. Its biological significance and potential applications in research and medicine make it a subject of interest in biochemistry and pharmacology.

  • Adenosine-5'-carboxylic acid

    CAS:

Adenosine-5'-carboxylic acid is a pharmaceutical compound that is used as an anti-inflammatory agent. It is a synthetic, non-nucleoside adenine nucleotide analog that has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory activity in vitro. Adenosine-5'-carboxylic acid inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes which are mediators of inflammation. It also inhibits the synthesis of protein kinase C, which plays a role in cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. Adenosine-5'-carboxylic acid has also been found to inhibit the growth of glioma cells in tissue culture and human muscle cells in vivo. The mechanism for this effect may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis and induce apoptosis.
