    CAS:
    2-Amino-6-mercaptopurine-9-D-riboside hydrate is a purine derivative that is used as a treatment for certain types of leukemia, such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It is converted to thioguanine in the body and inhibits the enzyme xanthine oxidase by forming hydrogen bonds with it. This prevents conversion of xanthine to uric acid, which results in an accumulation of uric acid in the blood. Thioguanine also inhibits the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase and reduces levels of nucleotides, which are needed for DNA synthesis. The drug has been shown to be effective when administered orally or intravenously. 2-Amino-6-mercaptopurine has been shown to possess antiinflammatory activities and can suppress immune reactions by inhibiting growth factor production by T cells. 2-Amino-6-mercaptopurine also binds to antibodies
