:5-Benzyl Hydantoin
Description:
5-Benzyl Hydantoin is a chemical compound characterized by its hydantoin structure, which features a five-membered ring containing two nitrogen atoms. This compound is typically a white to off-white crystalline solid and is soluble in organic solvents, such as ethanol and dimethyl sulfoxide, but has limited solubility in water. It is known for its potential applications in pharmaceuticals, particularly as an anticonvulsant and in the treatment of various neurological disorders. The presence of the benzyl group enhances its lipophilicity, which can influence its biological activity and pharmacokinetics. Additionally, 5-Benzyl Hydantoin may exhibit antioxidant properties, making it of interest in various research fields. Safety data indicates that, like many chemical substances, it should be handled with care, as it may pose risks if ingested or inhaled. Overall, 5-Benzyl Hydantoin is a compound of interest in medicinal chemistry, with ongoing research into its therapeutic potential and mechanisms of action.

CAS:
5-Benzyl hydantoin is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of hydantoins. It is an inhibitor of bacterial growth and can be used for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria, such as those caused by Salmonella typhi. 5-Benzyl hydantoin has been shown to have a high potency against this bacterium, but has not yet been tested extensively. The activity of 5-benzylhydantoin was detected in the range of 0.001 to 1 mM using an enzyme assay with purified sulfate fractionation and metal ion, at pH 7.5 and 37°C. This drug was found to work best in acidic environments (pH 4) and at high concentrations (1mM). These results were obtained from a molecular modelling study that showed the interaction between 5-benzylhydantoin with bacterial protein RacE, which catalyses the formation of racemic mixtures from enantiomeric compounds.
Formula:C10H10N2O2Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:White PowderMolecular weight:190.2 g/mol
