    <p>Metomidate hydrochloride is a low-potency, non-barbiturate anesthetic agent that has been used to induce and maintain general anesthesia. It is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme cholinesterase and inhibits the activity of many other enzymes in the central nervous system. Metomidate hydrochloride has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties that are similar to those of etomidate. The drug can be administered by aerosol or intravenously.
