:2,3-Dihydroxybenzenepropanoic acid
Description:
2,3-Dihydroxybenzenepropanoic acid, also known as 2,3-dihydroxyphenylpropanoic acid, is an organic compound characterized by its aromatic structure and the presence of two hydroxyl groups on the benzene ring. This compound features a propanoic acid side chain, which contributes to its acidic properties. The hydroxyl groups are positioned at the 2 and 3 positions relative to the carboxylic acid group, influencing its reactivity and solubility. It is typically a white to off-white solid and is soluble in polar solvents due to the presence of hydroxyl groups, which can form hydrogen bonds. This compound may exhibit biological activity, potentially acting as an antioxidant or having other pharmacological effects. Its applications can extend to various fields, including pharmaceuticals and biochemistry, where it may serve as an intermediate in the synthesis of more complex molecules. Safety data should be consulted for handling and usage, as with any chemical substance.

CAS:
3-(2,3-Dihydroxyphenyl)propionic acid (3-HPP) is a phenolic acid that is produced by the oxidation of 3-hydroxybenzoic acid. It was found to have antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The mechanism of action for 3-HPP is not entirely clear, but it may inhibit the growth of bacteria by interfering with the cell membrane or lysis. This compound has been shown to be able to block disulfiram treatment in rats and increase their blood alcohol levels. Disulfiram treatment is an effective drug used in the management of chronic alcoholism and alcohol abuse. 3-HPP has also been shown to inhibit uv absorption in wild type strains of yeast and may be used as a carbon source for these organisms.
Formula:C9H10O4Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:182.17 g/mol3-(2,3-Dihydroxyphenyl)propionic Acid
