18-Hydroxy-11-deoxycorticosterone

Description:
18-Hydroxy-11-deoxycorticosterone (18-OH-DOC) is a steroid hormone that plays a significant role in the regulation of electrolyte balance and blood pressure. It is a mineralocorticoid, primarily produced in the adrenal glands, and is involved in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. This compound is characterized by its specific hydroxyl group at the 18th carbon position and the absence of a ketone group at the 11th position, distinguishing it from other corticosteroids. Its molecular structure contributes to its biological activity, influencing sodium reabsorption and potassium excretion in the kidneys. 18-OH-DOC is also a precursor in the biosynthesis of aldosterone, making it crucial for maintaining homeostasis. In clinical contexts, alterations in its levels can be indicative of adrenal disorders, such as hyperaldosteronism or adrenal insufficiency. The substance is typically studied in endocrinology and pharmacology, and its CAS number, 379-68-0, is used for identification in chemical databases.

  • 18-hydroxy-11-deoxy Corticosterone

    CAS:

18-Hydroxy-11-deoxy Corticosterone (18-OH-DOC) is a mineralocorticoid produced by the zona fasciculata of the adrenal gland, with its biosynthesis regulated by adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and angiotensin II. This regulation heightens 18-OH-DOC production in isolated human adrenal glomerulosa cells and allows for its formation from 11-deoxy corticosterone (DOC) in human SK-MEL188 melanoma cells. As an intermediate in progesterone metabolism, 18-OH-DOC can be converted to aldosterone in rat adrenal glands' capsular portion. Its continuous infusion (200 μg/rat per day) has been shown to raise systolic blood pressure in uninephrectomized saline-drinking rats, and elevated plasma levels of 18-OH-DOC have been observed in the adb/db mouse model of type 2 diabetes.
