[1,1′-Biphenyl]-2,6-diol

Description:
[1,1′-Biphenyl]-2,6-diol, with the CAS number 3796-74-5, is an organic compound characterized by its biphenyl structure, which consists of two phenyl rings connected by a single bond. This compound features hydroxyl (-OH) groups at the 2 and 6 positions of the biphenyl framework, contributing to its properties as a diol. It is typically a white to off-white crystalline solid, exhibiting moderate solubility in organic solvents and limited solubility in water due to its hydrophobic biphenyl backbone. The presence of hydroxyl groups imparts some polar characteristics, allowing for potential hydrogen bonding interactions. [1,1′-Biphenyl]-2,6-diol may be utilized in various applications, including as an intermediate in organic synthesis, in the production of pharmaceuticals, or as a stabilizer in polymer formulations. Its chemical reactivity can be influenced by the hydroxyl groups, making it a versatile compound in chemical reactions. Safety data should be consulted for handling and exposure guidelines, as with any chemical substance.

  • 2-Phenylbenzene-1,3-diol

    CAS:

2-Phenylbenzene-1,3-diol is a ligand in the catalytic cycle of the cocl2 reaction. It is used to study the elimination reactions that occur during this process. The ligand was synthesized by reacting phenyliodine with benzoic acid and then hydrolyzing the product with dilute hydrochloric acid. The resulting crystalline compound was found to be thermally unstable and therefore required cocl2 for activation. This catalyst induced an elimination reaction which yielded two products: 2-phenylbenzene-1,3-diol and benzoic acid.
