CAS:Chalcogran is a volatile, semiochemical-rich substance secreted by beetles of the Chalcogran chalcographus species. Several different bark beetle species are known to attack trees to reproduce inside their trunk causing significant damage to the plant. Once the male beetles are nested in the tree, they secrete chalcogran to attract females. Chalcogran, together with other insect pheromonesin, can be used in special traps in order to minimize the application of insecticides or the constant monitoring of the insect population due to its attractant effect. It has been recently found that chalcogran is highly efficient against the larvae and pupae of scolytidae beetle, acting as a control agent in infestation in timber, and it may be combined with some fatty acids in some pesticide compositions.
