2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose-6-phosphate*barium

Description:
2-Fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose-6-phosphate barium salt is a derivative of glucose that has been modified to include a fluorine atom at the second carbon position and a phosphate group at the sixth carbon. This compound is often used in biochemical research, particularly in studies related to glucose metabolism and enzyme activity. The presence of the fluorine atom can alter the compound's biological activity compared to its non-fluorinated counterpart, making it a useful tool for probing metabolic pathways. The barium salt form indicates that barium ions are associated with the phosphate group, which can influence the solubility and stability of the compound in various conditions. Generally, such compounds are characterized by their ability to mimic natural substrates in enzymatic reactions, allowing researchers to investigate the mechanisms of action of various enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism. Additionally, the structural modifications can affect the compound's interaction with biological systems, making it a valuable asset in pharmacological and biochemical studies.

  • 2-Deoxy-2-fluoro-D-glucose 6-phosphate barium salt

    CAS:

2-Deoxy-2-fluoro-D-glucose 6-phosphate barium salt is a glucose analogue used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of cancer. It is an inhibitor of glycolysis and phosphofructokinase, which are enzymes that catalyze the conversion of glucose to pyruvate. 2-Deoxy-2-fluoro-D-glucose 6-phosphate barium salt is taken up by the cell by active transport, then metabolized into 2 deoxy 2 fluoro D mannose phosphate and finally converted to glucosylceramide. The PET scan detects the accumulation of this molecule in cells with high glycolytic activity, such as cancer cells. This compound has been shown to inhibit hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell growth in vitro and in vivo.
