:2,3,4,6-Tetrakis-O-(phenylmethyl)-D-glucopyranose
Description:
2,3,4,6-Tetrakis-O-(phenylmethyl)-D-glucopyranose is a glycoside derivative of D-glucose, characterized by the substitution of four hydroxyl groups with phenylmethyl (benzyl) groups. This modification enhances its lipophilicity and alters its solubility properties compared to unmodified glucose. The compound retains the pyranose ring structure typical of glucose, which contributes to its stability and reactivity. It is often utilized in organic synthesis and carbohydrate chemistry due to its ability to participate in various chemical reactions, including glycosylation and other transformations. The presence of multiple phenylmethyl groups can also influence its biological activity, making it of interest in medicinal chemistry. Additionally, its CAS number, 4132-28-9, allows for easy identification in chemical databases. Overall, 2,3,4,6-Tetrakis-O-(phenylmethyl)-D-glucopyranose serves as a valuable compound in research and applications involving carbohydrate derivatives.

CAS:
2,3,4,6-Tetra-O-benzyl-D-glucopyranose is a selectively protected intermediate, where the anomeric 1-O-hydroxyl group is free. This hemiacetal has been used successfully as an intermediate for glucosylation couplings, where it was converted into 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl-D-glucopyranose trichloroacetimidate using trichloroacetonitrile in the presence of a base such as potassium carbonate and DBU. Importantly, this imidate donor with no neighbouring participating groups is commonly used for the selective formation of α-glucosides. 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl-D-glucopyranose can also be oxidized to the lactone, or reduced to give the open chain form. Additionally, 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl-D-glucopyranose can be used for the preparation of glucono-1,5-lactone hydrazine, which was used, in-turn, to form a glucosylidene-spirocyclopropane.
Formula:C34H36O6Purity:Min. 97 Area-%Color and Shape:White PowderMolecular weight:540.65 g/mol2,3,4,6-Tetra-O-benzyl-D-glucopyranose
