:2-Amino-4-chlorobenzenesulfonamide
Description:
2-Amino-4-chlorobenzenesulfonamide, also known as sulfanilamide, is an organic compound characterized by the presence of an amino group (-NH2), a chlorobenzene ring, and a sulfonamide group (-SO2NH2). This compound is typically a white to off-white crystalline solid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. It exhibits properties typical of sulfonamides, including antibacterial activity, which is attributed to its ability to inhibit bacterial folic acid synthesis. The presence of the amino and sulfonamide groups contributes to its reactivity, allowing it to participate in various chemical reactions, such as acylation and alkylation. Additionally, 2-amino-4-chlorobenzenesulfonamide can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals. Its structure allows for potential interactions with biological targets, making it of interest in medicinal chemistry. Safety considerations include handling precautions due to potential toxicity and allergic reactions associated with sulfonamide compounds.

CAS:
2-Amino-4-chlorobenzene-1-sulfonamide is a sulfa drug that inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of folic acid. It is used for the treatment of staphylococcus and other bacterial infections, although it does not show any effect on gram negative bacteria. 2-Amino-4-chlorobenzene-1-sulfonamide binds to enzymes in the bacterial cell wall, which prevents them from synthesizing folic acid. This results in inhibition of DNA synthesis and protein synthesis, leading to cell death. 2-Amino-4-chlorobenzene-1-sulfonamide also shows antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi and Shigella dysenteriae because these organisms are sensitive to sulfa drugs.
Formula:C6H7ClN2O2SPurity:(%) Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:206.65 g/mol
