It binds to the hydroxyl group on the A ring and forms hydrogen bonds with residues in the ligand binding domain, which are important for the activation of estrogen receptors. Decahydroquinolin-2-one has been shown to have anti-depressant properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit dopamine reuptake and increase dopamine levels in the brain. The chlorination of decahydroquinolin-2-one at position 2 may contribute to its stability against oxidation.
