:Pentanoic acid, 4-methyl-3-oxo-, methyl ester
Description:
Pentanoic acid, 4-methyl-3-oxo-, methyl ester, also known as methyl 4-methyl-3-oxopentanoate, is an organic compound characterized by its ester functional group derived from pentanoic acid. It features a five-carbon chain with a methyl group and a ketone functional group at specific positions, contributing to its unique chemical properties. This compound is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a fruity odor, indicative of its ester nature. It is soluble in organic solvents and exhibits moderate solubility in water due to the presence of both hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions in its structure. Pentanoic acid derivatives are often utilized in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and flavoring agents. The compound's reactivity is influenced by the carbonyl group, making it susceptible to nucleophilic attack, which is a common feature in ester chemistry. Safety data indicates that, like many organic compounds, it should be handled with care, as it may cause irritation upon contact with skin or eyes.

CAS:
Methyl 4-methyl-3-oxopentanoate is a synthetic compound that inhibits the production of active oxygen and reactive oxygen species. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of tumor cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo, with an IC50 value of approximately 1.5 μM. The mechanism of methyl 4-methyl-3-oxopentanoate's anti-cancer activity may be through its ability to inhibit the activation of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) in human monocytes and macrophages, which leads to decreased inflammatory responses. Methyl 4-methyl-3-oxopentanoate has also been shown to inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species by inhibiting the activity of NADPH oxidase, thereby decreasing inflammation and oxidative stress. This compound is not known to have any adverse effects on humans or animals.
Formula:C7H12O3Purity:Min. 97%Color and Shape:Clear LiquidMolecular weight:144.17 g/molMethyl 4-methyl-3-oxopentanoate
