CAS 477-27-0
:Colchiceine
Description:
Colchicine, with the CAS number 477-27-0, is a naturally occurring alkaloid derived from the plant Colchicum autumnale, commonly known as the autumn crocus. It is characterized by its ability to inhibit microtubule polymerization, which disrupts mitotic spindle formation during cell division, making it a valuable agent in treating gout and familial Mediterranean fever. Colchicine appears as a white to off-white crystalline powder and is soluble in water, alcohol, and chloroform, but poorly soluble in ether. Its chemical formula is C22H25NO6, and it has a complex structure featuring a phenanthrene core. The compound exhibits anti-inflammatory properties and is also studied for its potential effects in various other conditions, including cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers. However, colchicine has a narrow therapeutic window, necessitating careful dosing to avoid toxicity, which can manifest as gastrointestinal distress or more severe systemic effects. As such, it is essential to monitor patients closely when administering this medication.

CAS:
Colchiceine is a stable complex of colchicine with hydrochloric acid. It is an analog of colchicine, and has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of collagen in human serum. Colchiceine inhibits the enzyme amino transferase that catalyzes the conversion of amino acids to proteins, which causes the immune system to produce antibodies against the tumor cells. Colchiceine also induces apoptosis by binding to DNA in cancer cells. The anti-infective properties of colchiceine are related to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis in bacteria and act as a cytotoxic agent on human leukemia HL-60 cells.
Formula:C21H23NO6Purity:Min. 95 Area-%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:385.41 g/mol
