CAS:Controlled Producta-Cholestane is a fatty acid that is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of cholesterol. It can be found in urine samples as a result of its conversion by the enzyme lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT). LCAT catalyzes the transfer of cholesteryl ester from plasma lipoproteins to the polar head group of phosphatidylcholine, which then becomes lecithin. The LCAT reaction is reversible and is catalyzed by sodium taurocholate. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy can be used to analyze how LCAT affects the surface methodology of a-cholestane.
