CAS:3-Hydroxy-2,2-dimethylpropanoic acid is a fatty acid with a reactive hydroxyl group. It can be obtained by the hydrolysis of glycerol. This product has been used to study the transport properties of fatty acids as well as their interaction with phosphotungstic acid, which is an important stain for biological tissue. FT-IR spectroscopy was used to identify the protonation mechanism of 3-hydroxy-2,2-dimethylpropanoic acid in the presence of sodium hydroxide solution and sodium carbonate. The activation energies for this process were determined to be 29.4 and 27.6 kcal/mol respectively.
