:L-Iditol
Description:
L-Iditol, also known as L-mannitol, is a sugar alcohol with the chemical formula C6H14O6. It is a white, crystalline substance that is soluble in water and has a sweet taste, making it useful as a sugar substitute in various food products. L-Iditol is commonly found in nature, particularly in certain fruits and vegetables, and is produced through the hydrogenation of sugars. It is non-cariogenic, meaning it does not contribute to tooth decay, which is one of the reasons it is favored in sugar-free products. In addition to its use as a sweetener, L-Iditol has applications in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly as a diuretic and in the formulation of intravenous solutions. It is also utilized in the production of certain types of polymers and as a stabilizer for proteins and enzymes. Overall, L-Iditol is valued for its functional properties, safety profile, and versatility in various applications.
