CAS 496-46-8
:Glycoluril
Description:
Glycoluril, with the CAS number 496-46-8, is an organic compound that belongs to the class of ureas. It is characterized by its structure, which features two urea groups linked by a glycol moiety. This compound is typically a white crystalline solid and is soluble in water and various organic solvents. Glycoluril is known for its ability to form stable complexes with metal ions, making it useful in various applications, including as a chelating agent and in the synthesis of polymers. Additionally, it has been explored for its potential in the production of flame retardants and as a building block in the manufacture of other chemical compounds. Glycoluril exhibits low toxicity, but like many chemicals, it should be handled with care in a laboratory setting. Its unique properties make it a subject of interest in both industrial and research contexts, particularly in materials science and coordination chemistry.

CAS:Glycouril is a chelating agent that is used to treat congestive heart failure. It has been shown to be an effective treatment for congestive heart failure by binding to the metal ions that are responsible for the condition. Glycouril binds to hydroxide ions, such as potassium dichromate, and forms stable complexes that are excreted in urine. The reaction mechanism of glycouril involves hydrogen bonding interactions with water vapor or nitrogen atoms. This interaction leads to the formation of a reaction solution in which glycouril acts as a ligand and binds to metal ions through coordination bonds. This complex is then heated, creating x-ray crystal structures with methanol solvent and metal hydroxides. Structural analysis of these crystals has shown that glycouril binds in a manner similar to other chelating agents, such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), but with slightly different molecular geometry and binding energies.Formula:C4H6N4O2Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:White PowderMolecular weight:142.12 g/mol
