CAS 498-24-8
:Mesaconic acid
Description:
Mesaconic acid, with the CAS number 498-24-8, is a dicarboxylic acid characterized by its unique structure, which includes two carboxyl (-COOH) groups and a double bond between the second and third carbon atoms in its five-carbon chain. This unsaturation contributes to its reactivity and potential applications in organic synthesis. Mesaconic acid is a colorless, crystalline solid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. It exhibits both acidic properties due to the presence of carboxylic groups and the ability to participate in various chemical reactions, such as esterification and polymerization. The compound is of interest in biochemical research and industrial applications, particularly in the synthesis of polymers and as an intermediate in the production of other chemical compounds. Additionally, mesaconic acid can be involved in metabolic pathways, making it relevant in biochemistry. Its structural features and reactivity make it a valuable compound in both academic and industrial chemistry contexts.

CAS:Mesaconic acid is a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) reagent that contains fumaric acid and dinucleotide phosphate. It has been used in PCR to increase the specificity of DNA amplification by reducing nonspecific binding. Mesaconic acid also has an antioxidant effect due to its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species and inhibit lipid peroxidation in vitro. The redox potentials of mesaconic acid allow it to act as a proton donor or acceptor, depending on the presence or absence of a metal hydroxide. This property allows mesaconic acid to bind covalently with drug transporter proteins that have metal-binding sites, which may then be used for targeted delivery of drugs into cells. Mesaconic acid has also been shown to have neurotrophic effects in various model systems, including dopaminergic neurons, PC12 cells, and cultured cortical neurons.Formula:C5H6O4Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:130.1 g/mol
