CAS 502-61-4
:Farnesene
Description:
Farnesene, with the CAS number 502-61-4, is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon classified as a sesquiterpene. It is primarily found in essential oils of various plants, including ginger and certain types of citrus. Farnesene has a complex structure characterized by a long carbon chain with multiple double bonds, specifically featuring a trans configuration. This compound is known for its distinct floral and fruity aroma, making it valuable in the fragrance and flavor industries. Farnesene exists in several isomeric forms, with α-farnesene and β-farnesene being the most notable. In addition to its sensory properties, farnesene exhibits potential biological activities, including antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. It is also being explored for its applications in agriculture as a natural pesticide and in the production of biofuels due to its renewable nature. Farnesene is generally recognized as safe for use in food and cosmetic products, although its reactivity and stability can vary depending on environmental conditions.

CAS:
Farnesene is a terpene that is found in plants. It has a molecular weight of 228.3 g/mol and a phase transition temperature of -62°C. Farnesene has been shown to be involved in bacterial resistance to certain antibiotics, such as erythromycin, by inhibiting the activity of enzymes which are involved in the production of fatty acids. Farnesene also has an odorant binding capacity and can be used as a natural insect repellent. The compound is produced by the plant metabolism from farnesyl diphosphate (FPP). Farnesene is synthesized through a two-step process: first, FPP is converted to geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGDP) and then GGDP is converted to farnesene.
Formula:C15H24Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:Colorless Clear LiquidMolecular weight:204.35 g/mol
