CAS 507-28-8
:Tetraphenylarsonium chloride
Description:
Tetraphenylarsonium chloride is an organic compound with the chemical formula (C6H5)4AsCl. It is characterized by the presence of a tetraphenylarsenium cation, which consists of four phenyl groups attached to a central arsenic atom, paired with a chloride anion. This compound typically appears as a white to light yellow crystalline solid and is soluble in polar organic solvents. Tetraphenylarsonium chloride is known for its use as a reagent in organic synthesis, particularly in the formation of arsonium salts and as a phase-transfer catalyst. It exhibits properties typical of quaternary ammonium salts, including the ability to facilitate the transfer of ions across phase boundaries. Additionally, it has applications in the field of medicinal chemistry and materials science. However, due to the presence of arsenic, it must be handled with caution, as arsenic compounds can be toxic and pose health risks. Proper safety measures should be observed when working with this substance in laboratory settings.

CAS:
Tetraphenylarsonium chloride hydrate (TPAC) is a hydrogen fluoride complex with copper. It has been used as an analytical reagent for the determination of hydrogen fluoride in water and other laboratory solutions. TPAC is prepared by adding sulfuric acid to a solution of tetraphenylarsonium chloride, which dissolves to form a deep red-violet solution. The presence of TPAC can be determined by measuring the rate of absorption at 410 nm, which corresponds to the peak wavelength for this compound. The optimum concentration for TPAC is 0.01% w/v in water or 1% w/v in ethanol. TPAC has genotoxic activity and belongs to group p2, kinetic data unknown.
Formula:C24H20AsCl•(H2O)xPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:418.79 g/mol
