:Pholcodine
Description:
Pholcodine is a semi-synthetic opioid used primarily as a cough suppressant in various over-the-counter medications. It is classified as a morphinan derivative and exhibits antitussive properties, making it effective in alleviating dry coughs. Pholcodine acts on the central nervous system by inhibiting the cough reflex in the brain, providing relief without the analgesic effects commonly associated with other opioids. Its chemical structure features a phenolic hydroxyl group, contributing to its pharmacological activity. Pholcodine is generally well-tolerated, but like other opioids, it can lead to side effects such as drowsiness, constipation, and potential dependency with prolonged use. It is important to note that pholcodine is not recommended for use in certain populations, such as individuals with respiratory conditions or those who are pregnant. Regulatory status may vary by country, and it is often available in combination with other active ingredients in cough formulations. As with any medication, it is essential to use pholcodine under the guidance of a healthcare professional to ensure safety and efficacy.

CAS:Controlled Product
Pholcodine is a cough suppressant that is used to relieve the symptoms of dry, tickly coughs. It does not have any analgesic properties and should not be used for the treatment of acute bronchitis or asthma. The drug is available in three forms: pholcodine bitartrate, pholcodine citrate, and pholcodine hydrochloride. Pholcodine is a tertiary amine that binds to cell nuclei and has been shown to cause DNA damage as well as inhibit protein synthesis. The drug has been shown to produce long-term toxicity in rats, but its clinical relevance to humans is unknown. A fluorescence detector was used to measure the sensitivity of the drug in detecting low levels of antibodies against it in human serum by measuring the change in fluorescence intensity upon binding with an antibody.
Formula:C23H30N2O4Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:398.5 g/mol
