:(±)-Atropine
Description:
(±)-Atropine is a tropane alkaloid derived from plants of the Solanaceae family, notably belladonna (Atropa belladonna). It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, (R)-atropine and (S)-atropine, which exhibit different pharmacological properties. Atropine is a tertiary amine with the molecular formula C17H23NO3 and a molecular weight of approximately 289.37 g/mol. It is characterized by its ability to act as a competitive antagonist of the muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, leading to effects such as increased heart rate, dilation of pupils, and reduced secretions. Atropine is soluble in organic solvents like alcohol and chloroform but has limited solubility in water. Its applications are diverse, including use in medicine as an antidote for organophosphate poisoning, in ophthalmology for pupil dilation, and in anesthesia to reduce salivation. However, it can also cause side effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision, and tachycardia, particularly when used in higher doses. Due to its potent effects, atropine must be administered with caution.

CAS:
Atropine is a tropane alkaloid, a type of secondary metabolite derived from the Atropa belladonna plant and other Solanaceae family members. It functions primarily as a non-selective muscarinic antagonist, effectively blocking the action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors. This blockade inhibits parasympathetic nerve impulses, leading to effects such as increased heart rate, relaxation of smooth muscles, and reduced bodily secretions.
Formula:C17H23NO3Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:289.37 g/mol
