17alpha-Methyl-19-nortestosterone

17alpha-Methyl-19-nortestosterone (17MT) is an anti-cancer agent that has been used as a contraceptive. It inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone by competitive inhibition of the enzyme 3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, which is responsible for the first step in the biosynthesis of androgens. 17MT has also been shown to inhibit angiotensin II formation, thereby reducing blood pressure.
