Haloperidol

Description:
Haloperidol is an antipsychotic medication primarily used to treat schizophrenia, acute psychosis, and for the management of Tourette syndrome. It belongs to the butyrophenone class of drugs and functions as a dopamine antagonist, particularly blocking D2 receptors in the brain, which helps alleviate symptoms of psychosis. Haloperidol is typically administered in oral or injectable forms and is known for its relatively long half-life, allowing for once-daily dosing in many cases. The substance appears as a white to off-white crystalline powder and is sparingly soluble in water, but more soluble in organic solvents like ethanol and chloroform.
