The compound binds to the active site of the virus and reacts with nucleophilic groups on the sugar ring. This reaction leads to a nitro group being introduced into the sugar ring of the virus. This nitro group is then alkylated by nucleophilic groups in proteins and other cellular components. 4,6-O-Benzylidene-1,3-di-O-methyla D mannopyranoside has been shown to inhibit hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection in vitro and in vivo.</p>
