:2,4,6-Trimethylphenol
Description:
2,4,6-Trimethylphenol, also known as pseudocumic phenol, is an organic compound with the molecular formula C10H14O. It features a phenolic structure with three methyl groups located at the 2, 4, and 6 positions of the benzene ring. This compound is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a characteristic odor. It is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water due to its hydrophobic nature. 2,4,6-Trimethylphenol exhibits antioxidant properties, making it useful in various industrial applications, including as a stabilizer in plastics and as an intermediate in the synthesis of other chemicals. Additionally, it can act as a biocide and is sometimes used in formulations for wood preservation. The compound is relatively stable under normal conditions but should be handled with care due to potential irritant effects on the skin and eyes. Proper safety measures should be taken when working with this substance in laboratory or industrial settings.
