CAS:

6,7-Dimethoxycarbostyril is a small molecule that has been shown to induce cell death in cancer cells by inhibiting the chaperone function of heat shock protein 90 (HSP90). HSP90 is a multifunctional molecular chaperone that affects many cellular processes including cell growth, apoptosis and tumorigenesis. 6,7-Dimethoxycarbostyril binds to the ATP binding site of HSP90, preventing it from performing its chaperone role. This leads to inhibition of cell growth and induction of apoptosis. 6,7-Dimethoxycarbostyril has also been shown to inhibit tumor growth in vivo in mouse models and has successfully completed phase I clinical trials at doses up to 2000 mg/day.
