CAS 531-29-3
:Coniferin
Description:
Coniferin, with the CAS number 531-29-3, is a phenolic glycoside primarily found in coniferous trees, particularly in the wood and bark of species such as pine and spruce. It is a natural compound that serves as a precursor to lignin, contributing to the structural integrity of plant cell walls. Coniferin is characterized by its molecular formula, which includes a glucose moiety linked to a coniferyl alcohol, a type of phenolic compound. This glycosidic bond makes coniferin soluble in water, allowing it to play a role in the transport of phenolic compounds within the plant. In terms of its chemical properties, coniferin exhibits antioxidant activity and may have potential applications in pharmaceuticals and food preservation due to its ability to scavenge free radicals. Additionally, it has been studied for its role in plant defense mechanisms against pathogens. Overall, coniferin is an important compound in both ecological and industrial contexts, reflecting the complex chemistry of plant secondary metabolites.

CAS:
Coniferin is a phenolic compound found in plants. It is a 4-hydroxycinnamic acid ester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. Coniferin can be used as an additive for food and animal feed, as well as a preservative for cellulose. Coniferin has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, such as K562 cells, by affecting energy metabolism and polymerase chain reaction activities. The physiological effects of coniferin have not been extensively studied but it has been shown to inhibit enzyme activities in plant tissues. Coniferin has also been shown to act synergistically with crystalline cellulose and dihydroconiferyl alcohol to produce HPC powder, which is used for the preparation of HPC-cellulose membranes for protein separation.
Formula:C16H22O8Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:342.34 g/mol
