:Dicyclohexylcarbodiimide
Description:
Dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) is an organic compound widely used as a coupling agent in peptide synthesis and other organic reactions. It is characterized by its unique structure, featuring two cyclohexyl groups attached to a central carbodiimide functional group. DCC is typically a white to off-white crystalline solid at room temperature and is known for its relatively low solubility in water but good solubility in organic solvents such as dichloromethane and dimethylformamide. One of its key characteristics is its ability to activate carboxylic acids, facilitating the formation of amide bonds, which is crucial in peptide synthesis. DCC is also known for its stability under standard laboratory conditions, although it can decompose upon prolonged exposure to moisture or acidic conditions. Safety precautions are necessary when handling DCC, as it can be a skin and respiratory irritant. Overall, DCC is a valuable reagent in organic chemistry, particularly in the synthesis of complex molecules.

CAS:
DCC is a carbodiimide coupling reagent for amide and ester formation, used in peptide synthesis in presence of benzotriazole-based additives such as HOBt or HOAt to limit epimerisation. The urea by-product is highly insoluble in water and most organic solvents; therefore it can be easily removed by filtration. The insolubility of the urea makes the use of DCC unsuitable for solid-phase peptide synthesis unlike DIC, and only suitable for solution-phase couplings. Carbodiimide reagents including DCC tend to generate an N-acylurea by-product, whose formation can be controlled by forming the activated ester first and adding the amine afterwards, together with low reaction temperatures and the choice of DCM or chloroform as solvent.
Formula:C13H22N2Purity:Min. 98 Area-%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:206.33 g/molDCCD (Redistilled for Solid-Phase Synthesis)
CAS:
DCCD is a chemical inhibitor of the enzyme pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase that is used to study metabolic pathways. It inhibits the activity of this enzyme by binding reversibly to its active site, thereby blocking its phosphorylation of pyruvate dehydrogenase and thus inhibiting the conversion of pyruvate into acetyl-CoA. DCCD also has been shown to have antidiabetic effects in an experimental model. This drug has been used as a reagent for polymyxin B and other chemical inhibitors in vitro experiments.
Formula:C13H22N2Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:206.33 g/molN,N-Dicyclohexyl Carbodiimide (DCC) pure, 98%
