It has been shown to be fungistatic against Microsporum canis and Trichophyton mentagrophytes with low toxicity to humans. The synthesis of 1,3-Dihydro-1-hydroxy-2H-benzimidazol-2-one involves the reaction of 2,4,6,-triaminopyrimidine with formaldehyde and sodium hydroxide in water. This synthesis requires a high degree of skill because of the difficult conditions it requires.</p>
