• 4,5-Methyl-2-mercaptobenzimidazole

    CAS:

4,5-Methyl-2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MBZ) is a benzimidazole compound that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. MBZ has a coordination geometry of square planar, which is stabilized by one or more hydrogen bonds. It reacts with hydrochloric acid to form an ion pair and carbon disulfide in water to form a hydroxyl group. The chemical structures of MBZ are shown below. The dose groups of MBZ were studied for toxicity in acute studies that included rats, mice, and rabbits. Inhibition studies showed that the nadph-cytochrome P450 system was activated by MBZ at micromolar concentrations. Toxicity studies were performed on rats, mice, and rabbits given intravenous doses of MBZ at various concentrations for up to 14 days. Acute toxicities including death rates and clinical signs were observed following high doses of MBZ given to rats and mice
